Annual Compensation Review: Support for Pastors?

It's time for that uncomfortable conversation again: my compensation. I will be pointing to this question, “Is the level of financial support for the minister appropriate and sufficient?"

Planning an International Move

Back in 2000, my wife Sandy and I moved from Michigan to Canada to pastor Neerlandia CRC. Sandy is a Canadian citizen and had a "green card." I am a US citizen and I got a visitors record, and eventually obtained permant residence in Canada. Now we have accepted a call back in west Michigan, and I can see the headaches and hassles on the horizon. Some of you may have extensive experience with this and so might have some advice (or at least sympathy!) for us. Some of the things we have to cnsider include: 1. Where can I find a sample policy regarding ministry standards and expectations for volunteers?

I am looking for a good sample policy for church volunteers that will set lifestyle and behavioral standards for our church ministries. Some things that I would want to include would be: membership in the church and active involvement in worship, moral standards, commitment to healthy communication, agreement to background checks, etc. Does anyone have a good sample policy listing the standards and expectations for ministry volunteers? Many thanks in advance.

Network Quiz

That quiz is way too hard and time-consuming for a person of limited zeal as myself, but as a regular user of the Network I still want one of those mugs. Bill me.

Reformed Worship and the Lectionary

I know this isn't the official Reformed Worship magazine site, but since RW is slightly associated with a few people here (Joyce B., John W.), I have a question (or maybe it's a comment) for you that I am too slothful to send in to RW. When our worship committee plans Advent and Lent services, we like to use RW resources. The problem is, I also prefer to follow the lectionary (RCL) for preaching. I meet weekly with other pastors from other Christian traditions to study the lectionary passages, and this is a great exercise in ecumenical relations, learning about the broader Christian tradition...

Pastor-Church Relations on the Network?

I was wondering if Pastor-Church relations could set up their own page on the Network.

CT article on Sex Offenders in the Pew

Check out this recent article in Christianity Today about churches dealing with sex offenders attending church. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2010/september/21.49.html And if you face this situation, be sure to contact Beth Swagman at the Safe Church Ministry; she has great resources!
