Don't be afraid to hire people with disabilities.

The excellent, brief videos below from The Campaign for Disability Employment. let people with disabilities tell their own stories of employment and the joy they experience in pursuing and fulfilling their dreams. Their jobs include actor, research analyst, copy writer, and small business owner.

Making the same point in a very different way, the journal article, Workplace Accommodations: Low Cost, High Impact, reports on findings such as these from employers who hire people with disabilities:

  • Employers want to provide accommodations so they can retain valued and qualified employees.
  • Most employers report no cost or low cost for accommodating employees with disabilities.
  • Employers report accommodations are effective.
  • Employers experience multiple direct and indirect benefits after making accommodations.

Are you part of a church that wants to help? The Interfaith Disability Advocacy Coalition, of which Disability Concerns is a member, has produced Disability Employment Resources for Congregations including a Bulletin Insert and Suggested Steps for Congregations.
