Highlights of Cariboo Community Church Profile

We are seeking the next generation of leadership.

Although we ticked “male pastors only,” we are open to a pastor couple.

We currently employ one founding, now Transitional Pastor and one part-time Administrator.  We hope to add a Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries within a year.

Our governing Council consists of seven elders and four deacons.  On Sunday mornings, two teams of three to five musicians lead through contemporary music.

History

In the late 1980s, a group of unchurched men met at Tim Horton’s for a Bible study.  It took root and grew.  Today, we have an average attendance of 80.

Initially a non-denominational fellowship, we are now a fully organized Christian Reformed congregation in Classis British Columbia Southeast.

35 Oliver

35 Oliver Street is our address and home base from which we reach out into the community.  A former department store, we renovated it to meet our needs.  This includes a nursery and three classrooms.

Before we were blessed with this location, we “wandered in the wilderness” in six locations over 15 years.  This included the basement of the Seniors’ Centre, school gyms and downstairs from a pub.

At 35 Oliver, we host three AA groups during the week.

Our Passion

Cariboo Community Church passion is reflected in its vision and mission.

The vision of CCC is to grow an effective, dynamic, and integrated community in Christ, locally and abroad to the glory of God.

Our mission is to reach young families and grow them into passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

Below are some ways our passions are lived out:

  • To incarnate Christ in our community
  • Embracing and caring for people in the margins of our community.

Having started with outreach to the unchurched, we continue to reach out to our community and beyond.  We have outreach potlucks each month.  Lead by the deacons, a team regularly donates food to those in need including the unchurched.

We have strong relations with Women’s Contact Society, Adult and Teen Challenge and other community groups.

Discipleship

Discipleship is a challenge.  Although we have a solid core of committed members and adherents, they are stretched to disciple those on the fringes and beyond.  (This is why we will be posting for a Children and Youth Pastor within a year.)

Currently, discipleship occurs through four Sunday School classes and six “Life” groups.

On the positive side, we baptized seven people of all ages this past year.

Our Membership

Our multicultural membership reflects the diversity of our community.  In addition to Canadian and American, we have Korean, Peruvian, Tongan, Fujian, Mexican, Indigenous and mixed ethnic adherents and membership.

Our attendees come from a wide range of spiritual backgrounds or none at all.  Among them are Baptist, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Christian Reformed, Evangelical Free, Methodist and non-denominational.

Financial

Our current year budget is $313,000 including contributions to denominational causes.  We plan to offer a competitive wage based on experience, qualifications and local cost of living.

OTHER
