Resources for Reopening Children’s Ministry in a COVID-19 World

Recently Faith Formation Ministries hosted more than 75 children’s ministry leaders and volunteers for an online roundtable discussion on what it might look like to return to face-to-face ministry in a COVID-19 world. The discussion was hosted by Mimi Larson, Children’s Ministry Catalyzer for Faith Formation Ministries, who was joined by FFM’s Regional Catalyzers Lesli Van Milligan, Laura Keeley, and Liz Tolkamp. You can view our conversation here.

From the word cloud shown above, you can see the variety of emotions children’s ministry leaders shared with us as they grapple with the challenges of leading a ministry in the midst of a global pandemic. There are no easy answers to these challenges, and there is much to consider in welcoming children back into the church building.

To help churches think through various areas, Faith Formation Ministries has created a list of questions to consider and discuss. Every church’s situation is unique, and regulations vary in states and provinces, so we encourage you to check with local authorities as you discuss these challenges.

But as we mentioned to the roundtable participants, CRC ministry leaders are not alone! Faith Formation Ministries exists to encourage and equip ministry leaders in their calling to shape lifelong faith formation in their context. If you are feeling like you have more questions than answers, contact Mimi Larson, Faith Formation Ministries’ Children’s Ministry Catalyzer, at [email protected]. Or contact one of FFM’s regional catalyzers who can come alongside you and help you strengthen the faith formation efforts in your congregation in this uncertain time.
