Loop Church (Downtown Chicago, IL) Seeks Lead Pastor

Loop Church is seeking a Lead Pastor to shepherd our gathering of Christ followers rooted in the reformed tradition, worshipping in the heart of downtown Chicago. Our mission as a church is to be followers of Jesus Christ, blessing our neighbors in the city and beyond by welcoming the presence and love of God into our lives and sharing it with those around us.

We do this by engaging in spiritual practices, living out community values, and engaging in acts of love and service. We enjoy and promote inclusion and diversity within our community. A short, informative history of Loop Church can be viewed on our website.

Loop Church currently holds services in Curtiss Hall located on the 10th floor of the historic Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Avenue, overlooking Grant Park and Lake Michigan.

We are seeking candidates for Lead Pastor to join us starting in January of 2021. The job description is as follows:

  • Provide leadership in Sunday worship services and special worship services as agreed upon, preaching the Word and administering the Sacraments (if applicable)

  • Provide the required administrative involvement and direction in the daily affairs of the church as needed for the purpose of effective transitional ministry to the congregation.

  • In conjunction with staff and elders, provide pastoral care for the congregation by visiting the sick, comforting the distressed, counseling and/or referral in crisis situations, visiting the families of the congregation.

  • Provide pastoral services for weddings and funerals.

  • Serve as a resource person for committees and organizations, attending meetings the council deems appropriate.

  • Provide leadership in helping the church identify and/or clarify its purpose, vision, goals, and future direction.

  • Provide leadership in helping the church find suitable space for worship and office as future needs dictate with the understanding and knowledge of, in seeking to communally worship within downtown Chicago, the churches historically transient and transition filled nature.

  • Perform, as the sole paid staff member, the vast majority of the administrative and clerical functions necessary to the functioning and operation of the church.

  • Provide leadership in structuring adult education, profession of faith, and membership classes.

  • Work a minimum 40 hours per week during this contract period

  • Be directly accountable to the elders and council of the Loop Church, providing monthly reports of activities.

The church has put together a detailed Church Profile with additional information on the community.  It should be noted that Loop Church is currently served by an Interim Pastor who will also be invited to apply for the position, but all parties desired an open and fair search process.

All candidates are asked to submit a resume and letter of interest by May 15 to the Loop Church Search Committee: Anne Fennema ([email protected]), Kevin VanKanegan ([email protected]), and Miki Phua ([email protected]). Questions about the church, the call process, or the job description can also be directed to the committee.
