Director of Youth

Proposed Job Description and Duties

 

Position Summary:                     The position of Director of Youth is primarily designed to give structure, organization and coordination to grade 6-12 youth groups, while at the same time giving sensitive attention to the ever-increasing needs of our youth in their relationship to Christ and the church.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Middle School Ministry

  1. Plan and lead at least one evening Bible based meeting per month, Sept-May
  2. Organize regular social activities (approx. 1/month)
  3. Organize regular opportunities to serve in church and community
  4. Facilitate participation in a middle school retreat 
  5. Seek ways to build relationships with students
  6. Seek ways to connect young people to the congregation
  7. Organize fund raisers as necessary.
  8. Involved in the recruitment of 6th-8th grade Sunday School teacher

High School Ministry

  1. Plan and lead, ordinarily, 2 Sunday evening Bible based meetings per month, Sept-May.
  2. Organize regular social activities (approx. 1/month)
  3. Organize regular opportunities to serve in church and community
  4. Organize annual service projects, retreats, or special conferences 
  5. Organize fund raisers for financial needs
  6. Seek ways to build relationships with students
  7. Seek ways to include youth in worship services
  8. Seek ways to connect students with the congregation

Post High Ministry

  1. Regularly evaluate the need and opportunity for a post-high school ministry and offer times to meet as opportunity presents itself
  2. Encourage post-high aged individuals to be actively involved in the life of the church

Miscellaneous

  1. Put together a “Prairie Edger” newsletter article for each publication
  2. Ensure the Youth Ministries website and social media are up to date
  3. Encourage profession of faith by students at all levels, including post-high; assist senior pastor in teaching pre-profession classes as the need arises
  4. Participate in worship services at appropriate times, e.g. youth services, service reports, announcements, invitations, etc.
  5. Continue furthering skills by attending youth worker trainings
  6. Regular attendance at worship services, to set a positive example to youth
  7. Intentionally seek out ways to connect with the wider congregation.
  8. Engaged in regular communication with parents of youth

 

Qualifications:

Personal Qualifications

  1. Unquestioned commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  2. A love for youth and a passion to see them grow and mature in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ
  3. Self-motivated, energetic, and able to manage time effectively when it comes to fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
  4. Ability to work with a variety of different persons in a kind, professional and pleasant manner, and to work through proper channels in cases of conflict.

Professional Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or equivilant
  2. Previous experience working in youth ministry such as a volunteer or leader
  3. Must have the administrative, communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead, teach and connect with youth
  4. Must be willing to work in coordination with the Senior Pastor and other staff.
  5. Must be familiar and in agreement with the teachings of the CRC and the mission and vision of Prairie Edge Church.

 

Supervision:                                   The Director of Youth will be under the authority of the Executive Committee of Prairie Edge CRC. The first six months of the position shall be probationary, and the position shall receive an annual review.

 

The Director of Youth will ordinarily be responsible to the Senior Pastor, in consultation with the Executive Committee, and will report regularly to the Children and Youth Team of Prairie Edge CRC. In addition, they will present a written report to Council monthly, detailing ministry activities.

 

Compensation and Hours:

 

                                                                Hours: 20-25 hours per week

The Director of Youth shall receive compensation of $20-$24/hr depending on the education and experience of the candidate

Paid Time Off accrual of 1 hour per every 40 hours worked
