Director of Worship Arts

Christ Memorial Church (CMC), located near shores of Lake Michigan in Holland, Michigan is  a full-time Director of Worship Arts. Reports to: Lead Pastor

Works cooperatively with: Pastors (as a member of the Staff Leadership Team) and worship staff members

Position focus: Christ Memorial Church has a rich tradition of classic and modern worship. The Lead Elders recently led the church family   into becoming one   community, with one  blended worship service, using all genres of music, arts, and other expression. The aim is to lead the congregation to encounter God during worship.

Position Calling: We are seeking someone who loves God passionately and loves God’s people sacrificially. We are looking for an individual with an unending desire to have the church  community encounter God through the sacrifice of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • Education: preferably degrees in Music and Worship
  • Experience: at least 5 years of leading worship in both traditional and modern music settings

Responsibilities

  1. Shepherd
    • Worship Staff through weekly meetings, individual discipleship, prayer, and counsel, and creating a positive and productive team dynamic.
  2. Worship Volunteers (150-200 people).  This includes the choir, orchestra, brass ensembles, Westminster Bell Choir, Worship   Band and      other ensembles (Flute Ensemble, Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Sacred   Dance Team, individual solos, etc.)
    • Giftedness among the congregation will determine what groups are directly led by this job with the need to raise leaders for those other groups and ensembles.
    • Shepherding these groups like a small church including counseling, prayer, and discipleship and rehearsals.
  3. Administer / Lead
    • Worship Staff
      • Lead weekly Worship Staff meetings
      • Give vision and align with the church’s future vision
  4. Lead in a creative and adaptable way
  5. Oversee the Worship budget and align funds to vision
    • Worship Volunteers
      • Long Range Planning
        • Choose music for certain traditional ensembles quarterly so all music can be ordered, filed, and distributed.
        • All Worship Band music is chosen carefully with theological care and congregational participation in mind. (Songs that are taught well and singable.)
      • Weekly Planning
        • Making sure that all the volunteers have everything needed to serve in an excellent way
      • Oversee the recruitment and development of younger artists (music, dance, etc.)
      • Work with technology team to ensure excellent sound, lighting, and video in worship spaces.
    • Internship Program
      • This program is budgeted to create internships for music majors from primarily Hope College to serve, learn and grow in church worship ministry.
  6. Create
    • Short-term
      • Create weekly worship themes in conjunction with the Teaching Pastor
      • Create worship services using a rich variety of music and the arts, utilizing the immense giftings of the congregation to worship God in powerful ways
      • Investigate new worship ideas
      • Attend conferences, watching other online worship, and other worship study material
    • Long-term
      • Create and produce four concerts per year
        • Two from the church volunteers (Christmas Eve and Spring)
        • Two from outside artists (Fall and Spring)
      • Values Reformed liturgies, standards, and seasons of the church year as well as valuing and growing the modern worship band.

The staff at Christ Memorial Church will shepherd and develop volunteer ministry teams.

Vision of Staff

Christ Memorial Church will develop and maintain a spiritually and emotionally mature staff of professionals who will build effective volunteer ministry teams that accomplish the mission of CMC and mentor interns who will go on to do the same in other churches and ministries.
