To further First Reformed Church’s mission of bringing people to saving faith in Jesus Christ and to make disciples that make disciples, the Director of Worship Arts will provide leadership, direction, and passion to our collective worship, specifically by creating spaces that are invitational, meaningful, emotionally resonant, and theologically grounded.

Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Lead Pastor in the development and implementation of worship services that are God-focused, celebratory, reflective, contemporary, participatory, designed for seeking an authentic and real relationship with God.
  • Recognize and honor the diversity of believers within the congregation.
  • Recruit, develop, train teams of all ages, empowering volunteers to be worship leaders.
  • Coordinate the components of service(s) to complement the theme of the pastor’s message and craft the service(s) for logical and emotional flow.
  • Direct weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate worship
  • Supervise the Director of Technology and show a working knowledge of sound/lighting technology and  audio/visual equipment.
  • Incorporate a wide range of arts in worship, including performing and visual arts.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate seasonal church-wide productions and special services.
  • Coordinate with the staff team to intertwine worship arts into a variety of programs and events.
  • Develop stage design and coordinate stage design team for seasonal/series stage changes.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

  • Have an authentic walk with Jesus as Lord and Savior and will be a person of personal and corporate prayer, study, and spiritual formation.
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity in personal and professional life.
  • Commit to the statement of faith and the philosophy of ministry of FRCZ.
  • Deeply understand personal and corporate worship theologically and experientially.
  • Strive for genuine authentic worship expression over performance.
  • Value and honor people and authentic relationships.
  • Have a heart for learning, training, developing, and deploying people.
  • Demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Effectively conduct groups of instruments and voices, including a worship band.
  • Skillfully lead in a variety of musical styles.
  • Be a highly motivated, self-starting individual who sets measurable, attainable goals and works toward their achievement, seeking to improve themselves and our team.

General Staff Expectations:

  • Be a positive role model with your life and words – radiate enthusiasm and live with integrity.
  • Invest in relationships with ministry leaders and volunteers.
  • Get to know the congregation.
  • Be regularly available to staff, leaders, and congregants.
  • Follow the guidelines of the First Reformed Child Protection Policy.
  • Commit to personal development through ongoing training/professional development.
  • Spend time growing in an understanding of spiritual formation in regards to worship.
  • Have a teachable and open attitude.
  • Be accountable to the Administrative Consistory through the Lead Pastor.
  • Engage in the life and ministry of First Reformed Church, along with family (if applicable).
  • Take a weekly Sabbath.
