Position Description- Pastor: Fairview Reformed Church is seeking a pastor who will be able to bring renewed and scripture-based spiritual growth to a long-established and mult-generational congregation. We are looking for a pastor who wants to be an integral part of our community- its spiritual, civic, cultural, and economic life.
Preaching and Worship: Provide primary preaching of the word of God at the Sunday worship services. Invite people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the preaching and teaching of Holy Scripture and walking in partnership with the Holy Spirit. Work with the musical staff and other supporting volunteers to ensure worship services follow a consistent Biblical theme. Properly and orderly administer the sacraments of the Lord's Supper and Baptism within the boundaries of the denomination.
Outreach and Community Engagement: Serve as the congregation's primary "outreach influence leader". Function as the church's principle vision-caster, thinking strategically and innovatively, and leading toward our missional vision. Assist with planning, coodination, and delivery of special teaching opportunities open to the entire community as a part of our community outreach vision. Be actively involved in reaching out to the surrounding community by getting involved outside the church doors. Approach the surrounding community as a mission field.
Leadership and Administration: Continually assess the health and effectiveness of the church's ministries. Paricipate with and help the Consistory set and review goals and objectives. Participate in monthly job assessments in the first year and quarterly in following years with a Consistory-appointed committee. Provide leadership of the church's staff. Perform administrative roles as required by the Consistory and larger denominational governing bodies.
Pastoral Care and Counseling: Make emergency or crisis calls to ensure consistent and loving care of members. Provide pastoral care to all members, shut-ins, and community members when needed. Conduct weddings and funerals with the oversight and direction of the Consistory.
Position Requirements: A personal relationship with and love for Jesus Christ and a passion to serve Him. Ordained in the ministry of the Reformed Church of America, Christian Reformed Church, or such denonimations as are approved by the Illinois Classis of the RCA. A sincere love and compassion for all people, both saved and unsaved. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to cast vision for the church and for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Willing to develop professional and personal skills for greater ministry effectiveness. Build relationships through involvement in congregational and community activities.
The mission of Fairview Reformed Church is to minister to the total life of the community by preaching, teaching, witnessing, and proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The rural community of Fairview (population about 500) is situated in the beautiful agricultural heartland of Illinois. Fairview Reformed Church has been serving Jesus since it was established in 1837. The historic building is located on a shady, one-block area in the center of Fairview. Also located on the block is the Fellowship Hall, which was built in 1981. Architecturally and functionally, the Fellowship Hall complements the church by providing a modern facility for Sunday School, Red Apple Preschool, and other community and church-related activities. Across the street from the church and hall is the parsonage, built in 1999 for use by the pastor and family. This spacious, two-story home features a central staircase, four bedrooms, and a beautiful yard.
Our worship services would generally be considered more traditional, but our congregation is open to new ideas. We are a small, conservative church (about 60 attendees), which gives us the feeling of a true church family. Some of the ways we presently serve our community are by packing Valentine's baskets with sweet treats and a personal note for shut-ins, serving funeral dinners, hosting a community soup supper, and donating money and supplies to support community projects which will benefit the town or schools. Our fellowship hall is often used by community members and organizations.
