First Reformed Church of Sioux Falls, South Dakota seeks a dynamic pastor to lead with biblical preaching, spiritual leadership, and community engagement. Responsibilities include delivering impactful preaching, providing pastoral care, and guiding staff and ministry teams. Ideal candidates will have advanced theological training, a strong knowledge of scripture, and pastoral ministry experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Areas of Responsibility
- Preaching and TeachingEnsures that preaching and teaching is biblical and relevant
- Plans and delivers engaging, life-transforming worship in partnership with the Music Director and other participants
- Administers the sacraments regularly and reverently
- Coordinates/communicates ministry plans and activities with other staff, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and “team” approach
Leadership
- Serves as the spiritual and organizational leader of First Reformed Church of Sioux Falls
- Functions as President of Consistory and non-voting member of the Administration Team
- Serves, equips and guides staff and ministry leaders
- Provides support and consultation as requested to all ministry teams
- Trains leaders, elders and deacons to effectively minister in their roles
- Maintains regular office hours at the church and is reasonably accessible
Outreach and Community Engagement
- Actively participates in the life and events of our community
- Cooperates with local churches, missions and faith-based organizations to share Christ’s love and light
- Leads the congregation in local, regional and global outreach
- Represents the congregation in the community and denomination
Pastoral Care
- Works closely with the Care Ministry Team to ensure that all members, adherents, and families receive regular pastoral support
- Provides leadership to welcome and engage guests and new members
- Ensures opportunities to meet with people who seek counseling
- Conducts weddings and funerals as available and requested
- Upholds harmony within the church, maintains appropriate confidentiality, and demonstrates professionalism in all interactions
Accountability
- Accountable to Consistory through the Board of Elders and accountable to the Alliance of Reformed Churches
Professional Qualifications
- Advanced theological training from an accredited institution
- Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of the Bible, First Reformed Church's Statement of Faith and the strategic proprieties, unifying beliefs, creeds and confessions of the Alliance of Reformed Churches
- Be ordained or ordainable by the Alliance of Reformed Churches
- Previous experience in pastoral ministry preferred
