Kalamazoo, Michigan
Third Christian Reformed Church (Third CRC) of Kalamazoo, Michigan is a Christ-centered, mission-oriented congregation rooted in the Reformed tradition and shaped by more than a century of God’s faithfulness. Founded in 1907, Third CRC has a long history of theological depth, thoughtful engagement with culture, and a strong commitment to worship, discipleship, and service.
We are an established congregation that values continuity, strong relationships, and openness to God’s ongoing work. Our life together is grounded in a shared mission of connecting people to Christ, His Church, and His community.
Third CRC is a stable, intergenerational congregation with deep roots and lasting commitment. Approximately 70% of our members have been part of the church for more than ten years, while new members and families continue to join and enrich our community.
Children, youth, adults, and seniors worship and serve together, and we intentionally cultivate intergenerational relationships. Older members regularly mentor and pray for younger generations, and children and youth are viewed as full participants in the life of the church.
Our congregation is highly educated and vocationally diverse, with members serving in professional fields, healthcare, education, business, trades, service industries, and the home. We value the unique gifts and callings each person brings to the body of Christ.
Third Christian Reformed Church is a member congregation of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) and is firmly rooted in the Reformed theological tradition. We affirm the historic creeds and confessions of the church and hold Scripture as the authoritative Word of God.
We confess belief in the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who created all things for relationship with Himself. We proclaim Jesus Christ as fully God and fully human, whose life, death, and resurrection accomplished redemption and whose reign continues as Lord of all creation. We depend on the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit to guide, sustain, and equip the church for faithful worship, discipleship, and witness.
Worship is central to life at Third CRC. We gather for a blended worship service that reflects our Reformed heritage while remaining accessible and engaging. Over time, the church has experienced a range of worship expressions, and today we value thoughtful integration of Scripture, prayer, music, and preaching.
Preaching is an essential component of worship and is expected to be biblically grounded, theologically rich, and relevant to everyday life. Worship services are planned collaboratively and are intended to foster spiritual growth, communal participation, and a deepening love for God and neighbor.
Third CRC offers ministries that support spiritual formation and community life across all ages. Our children’s ministry is vibrant and well-supported, providing nurturing and age-appropriate programming. Middle school and high school students are served through dedicated youth ministries focused on discipleship, relationships, and engagement with Scripture.
Adult ministries include small groups, educational opportunities, and service-oriented gatherings that encourage growth in faith, fellowship, and mutual care. Family and intergenerational ministries are also valued, with regular social and shared experiences that strengthen relationships across life stages.
Third CRC is located at 2400 Winchell Avenue in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in an urban-suburban setting. Kalamazoo is a diverse and vibrant city in southwestern Michigan with a metropolitan population of approximately 260,000.
