Job Description

Calvary is seeking a Pastor of Discipleship who will help us live out our vision to be Christ‑Centered, Bible‑Believing, Gospel‑Motivated, and Community‑Building.

The Pastor of Discipleship will inspire students toward holy living, lead and administer youth programs, model godliness and integrity, and preach the gospel through word and life. The role includes four primary areas of responsibility: Youth Ministries (50%), Congregational Life (30%), Leadership (10%), and Outreach (10%). Youth Ministries involves planning, promoting, and implementing all youth activities, including weekly meetings, outings, SERVE trips, fundraisers, retreats, Bible studies, and relational engagement with students beyond organized programs. Congregational Life includes organizing and participating in small groups and church activities; in conjunction with the Lead Pastor, shepherding prospective members through new‑member lunches and classes; meeting regularly with the Lead Pastor and Worship Planning Team; and preaching 8–10 times per year. Leadership includes participating in Calvary’s Council and Consistory and representing the church at Classis Lake Superior, CRC‑North America, area churches, and church plants as opportunities arise. Outreach focuses on engaging the community around Calvary and assisting members in connecting with the neighborhoods where they live and work.

Candidates should be ordained in the CRC or RCA, or ordained in a similar denomination with willingness to pursue CRC qualification. Those who are qualified candidates for ministry in the CRC or are currently pursuing an M.Div. with the intent of seeking CRC ordination are also encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong biblical and Reformed foundation; relational and interpersonal strength; communication and teaching ability; youth engagement; servant leadership; discernment; collaboration; and initiative.

The Pastor of Discipleship reports to the Lead Pastor for regular ministry activities and to the Elders for strategic direction and spiritual oversight.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

About

Calvary Christian Reformed Church is a thriving, multi‑generational congregation in Edina, Minnesota. We are one of about 1,000 churches in North America that belong to the Christian Reformed Church. As a Protestant branch of Christ’s church with a Reformed accent, we affirm God’s sovereignty, God’s kingdom, and God’s covenant.

Our vision is to be Christ‑Centered, Bible‑Believing, Gospel‑Motivated, and Community‑Building, and our mission is to proclaim the good news of Jesus in word and deed—here, near, and far. We seek to build community, nurture faith across generations, and live out the gospel in our neighborhoods and beyond. Calvary is excited to be the sending church for a nearby CRC church plant, which will be led by our current Pastor of Discipleship after a fruitful eight‑year tenure.

Calvary has a healthy congregational life, including active involvement in youth ministries from ages three through high school. We offer a variety of programs, including GEMS, Cadets, Sunday School (youth and adult), Youth Group, Senior Adventures, and various Bible studies. With 352 members, average attendance of 221, and typically more than 50 watching online each week, Calvary is a relational congregation committed to discipleship, worship, and service. We have a deep well of volunteers, and most members help lead and support our ministries in a variety of ways.

Calvary is located near 50th and France Avenue in Edina, a first‑tier suburb of Minneapolis within the diverse and growing Twin Cities metropolitan area of 3.7 million people. The region combines the opportunities of a major city with the pace and neighborliness of a small community and is known for its exceptional parks, excellent public and private schools, and flourishing business climate. Calvary also provides space throughout the week for a local charter school, a preschool, Edina Chorale, Bible Study Fellowship, and a local Christian school program. We value being known and respected in the local community and are located near several quality private Christian schools.
