Full-Time Solo Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Durango (Durango, CO)

Position Summary:

The Solo Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader and shepherd of the congregation, providing pastoral care, preaching, worship leadership, administrative oversight, and community outreach. This individual will nurture a welcoming and inclusive environment where all can grow in faith, deepen their relationship with Christ, and be equipped for service.

Key Responsibilities:

Worship & Preaching

• Plan and lead weekly worship services with strong, biblically grounded preaching
• Administer sacraments in accordance with PC(USA) practices
• Integrate traditional and creative elements into worship to reflect the life of the congregation

Pastoral Care

• Provide compassionate care and counseling to individuals and families
• Visit members who are ill, homebound, or in crisis
• Officiate weddings, funerals, and other life events

Leadership & Administration

• Collaborate with Session and ministry teams to implement the church’s mission and vision
• Moderate Session meetings and work with church officers on strategic planning
• Supervise staff and support their professional growth
• Oversee church operations and program development

Mission & Community Engagement

• Encourage and lead the congregation in local and global mission efforts
• Represent First Presbyterian Church in ecumenical and community activities
• Build relationships with individuals and families within and outside the church

Qualifications:

• Ordained or eligible for ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA)
• M.Div. from an accredited seminary
• Experience in pastoral ministry (solo or associate) preferred
• Strong preaching, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• A deep and vibrant personal faith, grounded in Scripture and guided by grace
• A collaborative spirit and a heart for service
