Plymouth Heights Christian Reformed Church (in Grand Rapids, Michigan) seeks a part-time Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have a personal relationship with Christ and be committed to the Reformed tradition. They will have a love for children and young people and an ability to understand and relate to them. They will also understand neighborhood outreach and be comfortable engaging with children, youth, and parents in the community surrounding Plymouth Heights. The candidate will be competent in the use of technology, with the ability to develop basic proficiency with Plymouth Heights’ current directory application and media for communication purposes. With these gifts and skills, the Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator will carry out ministry with an emphasis on pastoral presence for young disciples and will strive to enfold children and youth into meaningful involvement in the life of the church.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sunday Programming

For children ages 0-1st grade

  • Coordinate and maintain church nursery.
  • Prepare materials for children’s worship (“Sunday Stations”).
  • Prepare and print children’s bulletins.
  • Organize materials for children who remain in Sunday worship services.
  • Be prepared and available to lead Sunday Stations as needed.
  •  Regularly provide a children’s message on Sunday mornings.

For youth ages 2nd-4th grade

  • In partnership with the pastoral team, organize and coordinate an education time and materials to be provided during the mid-service breakout time.

Mid-Week Programming

For children ages 0-1st grade

  • Set up, oversee, and clean up after, church education classes (“Dwell”), including story, craft, and stations.
  • Provide programming for PreK-1st grade students that coincides with Gems and Cadets.

For youth ages 2nd-8th grade

  • Supply, organize set-up and clean-up, and oversee Cadets/GEMS.
  • Provide supplies, snacks and set up for middle school youth group.
  • Organize group games for middle school youth group.
  • Organize occasional special middle school youth group events..

General:

  • Select and provide curricula for volunteers (some volunteers select their own).
  • Meet with children and youth ministry volunteers to plan each ministry year.
  • Email scheduling and other updates to parents.
  • Foster age-appropriate connection with students.
  •  Encourage students to participate in worship services (in partnership with Minister of Music).
  • Engage in outreach to neighborhood families who participate in church programs.

REPORTING AND SUPERVISION

The Children and Youth Director will attend weekly staff meetings, reports directly to the Minister of Worship and Leadership, and collaborates with the pastoral team in aligning ministries with mission of the church.

Hours: 25/week.

Compensation: Negotiable (based on regional church staff salary averages).
