Part-Time Choir Director at Elmhurst CRC (Elmhurst, IL)

Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church (ECRC), in Elmhurst, Illinois, is seeking a creative and musically gifted Choir Director who loves the Lord and has a passion for helping the whole church worship in song.  In this role, you will direct our multi-generational adult choir in both stand-alone anthems and strategic collaborations with the worship band, enhancing the depth and vitality of our gathered worship. We are looking for someone who leads with warmth and authenticity, and can cultivate a welcoming, supportive community within the choir.

Work Expectations: 8 hours per week

Supervisor: Director of Worship

Works Closely with: Worship team members, Lead Pastor, A/V staff and volunteers

Responsibilities:

• Direct the adult choir in weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning worship services, providing both musical and spiritual leadership
• Carefully select choral repertoire, ranging from traditional anthems to gospel and contemporary pieces, that complements the preaching theme and liturgical season
• Coordinate with Director of Worship and accompanist, and ensure choir members receive timely updates about rehearsals and upcoming services
• Manage and maintain choral library
• Contribute to service planning in Planning Center (previous experience preferred)
• Organize and lead choral music for special services, including Good Friday and a Lessons & Carols service in December

Qualifications: 

• Proficiency in choral conducting with a proven ability to elevate the musicality of volunteer singers at all skill levels—especially in the areas of vocal blend, part-singing, and stylistic versatility
• Previous experience directing a church or Christian school choir is preferred
• Willingness to work closely with the Director of Worship and other staff to create a cohesive worship experience
• Familiarity with sacred choral repertoire and liturgical seasons
• Stylistic flexibility and ability to navigate various types of accompaniment (piano, organ, strings, rhythm section, band) 
• Organization and communication skills are a must 
• A "suburban-friendly" approach—warm, encouraging, and able to recruit busy professionals and families into the choir ministry
• Must believe in the Triune God and be a spiritually mature follower of Jesus Christ
• Openness to membership in Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church

Work Expectations

• Part-time, non-exempt
• Weekday schedule is flexible; Sunday work expected (1-2 Sundays/month)
• Regular Sunday church attendance at Elmhurst CRC
