Job Description

Grace CRC in Burke, VA. is beginning a new phase of multi-cultural ministry in the Washington DC suburbs. We are seeking a part-time Minister of the Word or Commissioned Pastor, at 50% time, to join with our full time Korean pastor to serve our congregation. The pastor will provide spiritual leadership to the English-speaking members in preaching and worship, teaching and discipleship, pastoral care, and will cooperate with the Korean pastor in guiding the congregation in outreach and mission within our local community.

In addition, the pastor will work in partnership with our Korean pastor and congregation, fostering unity, shared ministry, and mutual encouragement in Christ.

Our congregation is committed to living out the Reformed faith as expressed in the creeds and confessions of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), to building a multi-cultural congregation, and to engaging our neighborhood with the good news of Jesus Christ.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Preaching and Worship Leadership

  • Preach the Word faithfully, grounding sermons in Scripture and applying them to daily life.
  • Lead the congregation in worship in accordance with the CRC’s liturgical heritage.
  • Administer the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
  • Plan and lead worship for regular and special services (Advent, Lent, Easter, etc.) in partnership with worship leaders and musicians.
  • Collaborate with the Korean pastor and congregation for occasional joint worship services.

2. Teaching and Discipleship

  • Lead Bible studies, catechism classes, and/or small groups.
  • Encourage spiritual growth for all ages.
  • Equip members for ministry, helping them discover and use their gifts.
  • Support opportunities for learning and fellowship shared with the Korean congregation.

3. Pastoral Care

  • Visit and pray with members, especially those who are ill, grieving, or homebound.
  • Offer pastoral counseling and support during times of crisis.
  • Officiate weddings, funerals, and other pastoral services in accordance with CRC polity.
  • Work together with the Korean pastor to provide pastoral support where appropriate.

4. Outreach and Mission

  • Encourage and lead the congregation in sharing the Gospel in word and deed.
  • Build relationships with neighbors, local organizations, and community leaders.
  • Equip the congregation to engage in acts of service and witness.
  • Collaborate with the Korean congregation in joint outreach projects when possible.

Qualifications

  • Ordained, or eligible for ordination, as a Minister of the Word in the CRCNA or as a Commissioned Pastor in the CRCNA.
  • A mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Deep commitment to the Reformed faith as expressed in the historic creeds and the Three Forms of Unity.
  • Demonstrated gifts in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and mission leadership.
  • Proven relational skills, especially cross-cultural relational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership, volunteers, and in a multi-cultural context. 

Terms of Employment

  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours/week (50% time).
  • Accountability: Reports to and is accountable to the Council.
  • Compensation: Salary and benefits in keeping with CRCNA guidelines, proportionate to time commitment and experience.
  • Funds available for professional development and spiritual and personal care.
  • Annual Review: Performance will be reviewed annually by the Council.
