Description

The Worship Director is responsible–under the direction of and in conjunction with the Lead
Pastor–for the planning and leading of the corporate worship gatherings of Vriesland Church
with a particular focus on the liturgical and musical aspects of worship.
This position is an in-office position with room for some flexibility. Required in-office schedule
includes, but is not limited to, Wednesday evening rehearsal, Sunday morning rehearsal, and
worship gatherings.

  5. Is a proficient musician with the ability to organize, coordinate, and lead a group of
    musicians
  6. Is or will become a Ministry Partner of Vriesland Church
  7. Bachelor’s degree or other applicable training and development
    Experience leading sung worship in a local church congregation is preferred

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and prepare for all aspects of our weekend gatherings and special services in
    association with the Lead Pastor and Worship Committee.
    1. Aspects of a weekend gathering include, but are not limited to volunteer
      coordination, service order and liturgy, music planning, ProPresenter 7, and
      audio/video technology needs.
    2. Special services include, but are not limited to Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Eve, and Christmas Eve.
  2. Annually, at minimum, analyze Vriesland’s repertoire with a focus on frequency played,
    theological themes, hymn/chorus balance, etc.
  3. Oversee the master planning schedule for weekend gatherings.
  4. Work with Planning Center to organize all music, services, volunteers, and calendar.
  5. Ensure Vriesland Church stays in compliance with copyright and licensed song usage
    laws and regulations.
  6. Ensure musicians are prepared to play their part in each weekend gathering. This is done,
    in part, through:
    1. volunteer scheduling
    2. timely service planning
    3. effective Wednesday evening and Sunday morning rehearsals
    4. giving thoughtful musical and vocal direction
  7. Serves as the worship leader for weekend gatherings and is responsible for securing a
    replacement when absent from a weekend gathering.
    1. The Worship Director will secure a worship leader to lead the services in their
      absence (excluding Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and Thanksgiving
      Eve, or other services as determined by the elder board).
  8. Serve as the head of the Worship Committee and facilitate 4-6 meetings per year. This
    team evaluates, plans, and casts a vision for the worship ministry of Vriesland Church.
  9. Oversees and arranges for the maintenance and care of the audio/video equipment and
    musical instruments in partnership with the tech director. This includes maintaining piano
    humidifier, scheduling piano tunings, drumhead maintenance, maintaining streaming’s
    hardware and software effectiveness, etc.
  10. Works to equip and empower the congregation to participate in all areas of the worship
    ministry. This includes recruiting and encouraging the congregation to develop and
    deploy their gifts.

Reporting

The Worship Director will report to the Lead Pastor.

Compensation

Compensation will be hourly, with additional allowances for certain approved expenses and
professional development. This is an hourly, at-will position of 15-20 hours per week. The
position does not include benefits such as retirement or health insurance. Vacation and sick pay
are calculated based on hours worked per week.

Hourly compensation will be based on experience level.

This position will be filled via recommendation from the search team and Lead Pastor, with
approval by the elder board, and final Full Consistory approval.
