Job Description

PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:

The Classis Niagara Youth and Young Adult Champion (CNYC) will empower and encourage those working on the frontline in youth and young adult ministry within Niagara. The CNYC will listen, pray, help connect, and be a voice on behalf of youth and young adult workers at the classis level. There is a strong desire amongst the churches in Classis Niagara to strengthen youth and young adult ministry in the CRCNA, therefore the CNYC will remind us that we are all in this together and we all play a significant role in furthering the kingdom of God.

More specifically, the CNYC will:

  1. function as a listener/broker for youth and young adult leaders and congregations through listening to the joys and struggles of youth and young adult ministries and connecting them to places/resources for support as needed
  2. connect on a personal level with each church’s youth and young adult ministry leaders, both volunteer and paid staff in classis at least once a year to foster relationships and connections
  3. cast a vision for what strong Reformed youth and young adult ministry can be, recognizing that the congregational vow at every baptism provides a rich vision that calls for the entire congregation to be involved in discipling its children, teens, and young adults
  4. bring awareness at the classis level of the opportunities, needs, challenges and celebrations of youth and young adult ministry volunteers and staff within Classis Niagara
  5. update the classis contact database of youth and young adult ministry leaders as needed
  6. pray regularly and with intentionality for each church's’ youth and young adult ministries in Classis
  7. bring awareness of events and resources that are available to congregations in classis and act as a conduit of information from Thrive-Faith Formation Ministries, such as webinars for youth and young adult ministries, faith formation, multi-classes events, youth ministry opportunities and training to develop leadership etc.
  8. discern which other tasks are appropriate and possible in view of personal capacity and the needs of classis that will bless and support youth and young adult ministries in the local church, including collaboration with other classes.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required (some may be learned on the job):

  1. Committed to Jesus Christ and able to recognize that this position contributes to the work of building God’s kingdom;
  2. Passionate about youth and young adult ministry and faith formation within the CRCNA;
  3. Subscribes to the doctrinal standards of the CRCNA/is a member in a Christian Reformed Church;
  4. Experience as a youth pastor, youth leader, and/or volunteer in children or youth ministries;
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  6. Proven ability to effectively organize and manage multiple responsibilities daily;
  7. Disciplined, self-motivated; able to function well with limited supervision;
  8. Flexible schedule;
  9. Is teachable and open to feedback and accountability;
  10. Able to build and maintain healthy relationships

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (or equivalent experience)

  1. University / College / Seminary degree or its equivalent in theological studies and/or youth ministry preferred.
  2. Minimum of 3 years working with youth and/or young adults in volunteer or paid capacity.

WORKING LOCATION

  1. Remote within the Niagara Region
  2. Must be willing and able to travel to Classis Niagara churches

About

Classis Niagara invites applications for a permanent part-time position, averaging 15 hours per month, at a $6,000 annual stipend, to serve as a Youth & Young Adult Champion. The position is available starting in early January 2026.

Classis Niagara consists of 11 organized churches and 3 missional expressions. All churches are relatively close together in the Niagara Peninsula, stretching from Niagara Falls to Dunnville.
