My husband and I have raised two children — one with special needs. While raising them, we also took care of my mother-in-law through cancer and dementia. We are a living testimony to what God can do in a family running on fumes — emotionally, financially, spiritually and physically.

There are more than 65 million people, 29 percent of the US population, in families like ours, struggling to care for one or more members who are chronically ill, disabled, or aging, or mentally ill. With autism on the rise and Baby Boomers turning 65, the numbers of families in this situation will soon be staggering.

I write to tell you this because we were desperate for spiritual support for our particular circumstances and to connect with others who had been on a similar journey. We struggled to find a local church who could minister to a family like ours. There were secular support groups, but we needed hope, not just the stories of others who were drowning like we were. So, I wrote The Heart of the Caregiver, a small group curriculum for churches to use as an outreach ministry to hurting families — to connect them with others and comfort them with the same Truth that transformed our family.

I would like to send you a copy of the curriculum and discuss how I might help you get support groups started. To learn more, visit www.TheHeartoftheCaregiver.com and www.MaryTutterow.com. Then send me your mailing address to [email protected] and I’ll send you the curriculum. I look forward to working with you.
