Check out this very short, 2 minute, 45 second video, Abuse Prevention: What’s That?. It is a great tool to help you educate your congregation.
Here’s an idea!
Show it at a congregational meeting or another congregational gathering in early September so that your whole church gets the information they need!
This video will take fewer than 3 minutes of people’s time but has the potential to advance your safe church work immensely. It will help increase awareness and understanding of the potential risks churches experience when they DO NOT pay attention to abuse prevention.
Orientation for New Volunteers and Leaders?
Consider spending a little more time with other teams to provide more in-depth knowledge of safe church work.
Perhaps target individuals who work in children and youth ministries, your church council and all pastoral caregivers. The webinar, The What, Why, and How of Safe Church Ministry, provides an overview of CRC Safe Church Ministry. It gets into more detail about the reasons why abuse prevention and response is critical to the life of our churches. In addition, it looks at how safe church ministry is changing and helps people discover opportunities for powerful, transforming ministry to individuals and churches.
This webinar is ideally suited for including in fall orientation sessions for new volunteers or council members.
The webinar, now available online, is led by Bonnie Nicholas, Director of Safe Church Ministry for the CRCNA. Bonnie has served on Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Councils in two counties, bringing to the table a voice from the faith community. Bonnie has facilitated many groups for women and is also the author of Bethesda, Come to the Water, a Bible study guide for women (available from Faith Alive Christian Resources).
