This easy-reading, deeply biblical, and highly practical book by Mike Breen and Steve Cockram is sub-titled "How to Release a Missional Movement By Discipling People Like Jesus Did". As they see it, the challenge of a shrinking and increasingly irrelevant church is not actually a missional problem or a leadership problem. It is a discipleship problem. And as church leaders there is much to be gained by assessing the truth of that in our own ministry context and then leading by example as we engage in intentional discipling relationships.

What does engaging in intentional discipling relationships look like? How do we as leaders make disciples who can do the things that Jesus did, for the reasons that Jesus did them? Building a Discipling Culture goes a long way in helping to find the answers. It is the product of more than 25 years of hands-on discipleship practice and is a very useable guide to taking not only the first steps personally, but also to begin initiating a discipling movement that multiplies- disciples who make disciples. How many times has the impact of a resource not lasted beyond the end of the reading of the last page or the last small group session? This one is different.

Dallas Willard put it this way: "Every church needs to be able to answer two questions. One, do we have a plan for making disciples? Two, does our plan work?" Most church's leaders have a plan, but it isn't working the way they'd like. By looking to the ministry plan that Jesus operated with we can begin to see the changes we long for in ourselves, our churches and our communities.
