First, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! If yours was anything like mine, it involved spending time with loved ones, eating some good food, enjoying the fall weather, and giving thanks to our God for all his many blessings to us.
Speaking of giving thanks, last week the Canadian Ministries Board met for its Fall meeting. While the conversations at the board are wide-ranging, each October we report on the activities and impact of our ministries from the past ministry year (July 2024 - June 2025).
There is a lot to give thanks for. Our shared denominational ministries have been doing some really significant work.
In my report to the board, I shared these words:
We always need to keep before us that the success of our denominational ministries is measured by the health and vibrancy of CRC congregations. Whether that involves ensuring churches have the resourcing and support that help them be a healthy community together, tools for responding to God’s calling for them in their own location, partnering together to engage in ministry far beyond our own spaces, and more. Everything we do is designed to help churches grow in strength and expand their impact.
Your role as a board is to help us stay true to this commitment. Our shared denominational ministry is a tool that the Spirit uses to help make sure the CRC is a community worth being part of, and your work helps us keep that tool sharp.
We believe that the strength of our ministries comes from the engagement and insights of our entire community. That's why we're inviting you to join us in a conversation about the past year. We want to hear your thoughts on the impact the CRC ministries have had, the stories of lives touched, and the ways we've collectively served God's kingdom.
This is also an opportunity to look forward together. As we reflect on the past, we also prayerfully consider the future—the opportunities, challenges, and the ways we can continue to grow and deepen our impact in the coming year.
Please mark your calendars for November 3, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. ET, and consider participating in this important discussion. Your perspective is invaluable as we celebrate what God has done and discern where He is leading us next.

This fall I’m looking forward to connecting with several of the classes and church leaders across Canada. While we are in an ongoing time of disruption and challenge, I’m grateful for the strength of our ministries and the vibrant work God is doing in our churches. I am continually encouraged by the dedication and resilience I see in our communities, and I believe that by working together, we can continue to navigate these times with faith and hope.
