Faith Nurture, Family Ministry
One of the blessings of technology is the opportunity to gather people across great distances for significant conversations about ministry opportunities and challenges.
Throughout October, various members of the Faith Formation Ministries team have gathered folks for a conversation time we call “Around the Table.” We’re meeting to talk about and learn from each other about a variety of topics. Past topics have included Navigating Church after Pandemic Trauma, Christian Smith’s book Handing Down the Faith, and Equipping Families with Children for Advent. The topics we ponder will be many and varied so that we can support all sorts of ministries in local churches.
Gathering Goals
There are three main goals for our “Around the Table” gatherings:
-
Provide opportunities to connect ministry leaders throughout the U.S. and Canada who are interested in a particular ministry opportunity or challenge. A good portion of our time together is spent sharing what we are learning with each other. Because of this we spend time in breakout rooms and not all of our time together will be recorded.
-
Share resources, especially newer ones, to support the work of ministry leaders. Sometimes those resources might be a shared slide deck where we have used our collective wisdom and creativity to brainstorm together. At other times the resource might be a conversation with an author, a book discussion, or other helpful material.
-
Provide a forum where you can share your questions and concerns. Being in ministry is hard right now, and we want to support you in today’s challenges and opportunities and be responsive to what is happening in various contexts around North America.
What’s Coming Up
We look forward to having you join us for our next Around the Table on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM EST.
It will be an exploration of the book Prayer in the Night by Tish Harrison Warren, led by FFM director Chris Schoon. Interested in joining us? Register here for your Zoom link. During our discussion about Handing Down the Faith by Christian Smith and Amy Adamczyk, one participant suggested that we connect with Robert Keeley to talk about his book Helping Our Children Grow In Faith, and plans are in the works for that too.
