Spiritual retreats can be deeply renewing experiences. They can be spaces of rest, relaxation, and refocusing, where you can be received as a beautiful child of God. They can be spaces in which you can come in contact with God's voice anew and dive into new and old spiritual practices, from listening to contemplative prayer to meditation and many others. And you don't have to leave your town or church; you can have a spiritual retreat in your own community, as well.

If you've done a spiritual retreat before, what have you done? What role did it play in your journey of faith? What materials, such as videos, books, and discussion questions, have you used? Have you had different resources tailored for women's and men's spiritual retreats? What worked well for you and what didn't?

This coming January 2025 I will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of hosting InterMission Silent Retreat, a weekend retreat held twice a year in Alberta, CDA, in which there are no materials to read or videos to watch or speakers to listen to---only the reading of one's own soul in the presence of God.  Each participant spends the weekend in silence and meets with a spiritual director 2-3 times in order to discern their experience.  We follow the invitation of Jesus, "Come away with me by yourselves and  get some rest."  I have told myself that I will keep hosting it for as long as people keep coming, and for twenty years, people have kept coming.  Ron Klok, Edmonton, AB.
