Worship Ministries' Peer Learning Book Groups

What is a Peer Learning Book Group?

A Worship Peer Learning Book Group is a small group involved in leading, planning, or participating in worship in the local church that gathers to study and discuss one of this year's books chosen by Worship Ministries. These groups can be made up of individuals from the same or different churches, meeting in person as you feel comfortable or online. Join with other Worship Leaders/Planners/Pastors in your area, or start a study group with your Worship Planning team or committee at church. Encourage the youth leaders to form or join a group, involve your missions and outreach team, or engage your Adult Education class in a Worship Peer Learning Group study.

Books for 2020-2021:

Worship Ministries has chosen two books this year dealing with different aspects of worship. Each registered participant will receive one of the following books.

The Gospel in a Handshake: Framing Worship for Mission by Kevin J. Adams, enables worship leaders to skillfully guide spiritual novices, skeptics, and Christian veterans to the grace embedded in the timeless liturgy. Offering winsome worship hospitality, these pages provide seasoned wisdom, often in the form of pithy introductions (Adams calls these “frames”) that alert worshipers to the character and purpose of various service elements. Readers get the tools to create their own frames, informed by the church of all ages, and customized to their congregation and neighborhood. This book will serve well anyone who wants to increase their missional worship IQ.

Worship Together in Your Church as in Heaven, by Nikki Lerner and Josh Davis, is a practical and foundational resource for pastors and worship leaders of all kinds. It addresses an urgent need in the church today: as our communities become increasingly diverse, how can we offer worship that is authentic and engaging for all of God’s people, including longtime church members? The authors offer an empathetic, step-by-step approach, providing readers with knowledge, skills, and strategies to successfully introduce inclusive, multicultural worship in any setting. Davis and Lerner are expert practitioners and pioneers who invite us to break new ground with them, making worship that more closely reflects God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
