A Spoon Full of Sugar

I appreciate Mary Poppin's spoon full of sugar adage, and invoke it often. For me, organizing is the medicine of ministry. I like to be in the moment with kids—sharing a story, playing a game, singing together; or at a leader's meeting, brainstorming and swapping ideas. . . . Making sure that the supply cabinet is stocked and the substitute gets the lesson in time is not my cup of tea. But it is part of what makes each session run smoothly. So, if there are things to color, cut, or assemble I do that in the evening as I watch a show with my husband. When I run to the store for supplies, I always pick up something for my own craft room, too. When possible, I go out with my co-leader at the beginning of a new unit so we can spend time together and sip hot chocolate as we look at lessons. It might sound a tad self-indulgent, but I've found that those little boosts can ward off burnout! So what's your spoon full of sugar?
