Lord of Life and Freedom,

We know what it’s like to lie, cheat, and steal to get what may bring some relief.

The very cells in our bodies cry out for release,

Or at least a place to hide.

It’s hard to imagine that we can survive without the hit, the swig, the swipe, the view

That we’ve come to love and rely on.

Yet, our bodies and our souls bear the scars of these things that we grip so tightly—

That grip us so tightly.

So, we muster our courage here today

To bring before you the addictions that have brought us so much shame.

Don’t send us away.

Instead, Lord, ease our pain and give comfort and hope—

For healing, recovery and restoration

With ourselves and others who’ve been hurt by our addictions.

We surrender to your will,

Trusting that you will make all things right.

Amen
