The Director of Student Ministries embodies First Reformed’s mission of bringing people to a saving faith in Jesus Christ by making disciples who make disciples, with a particular focus on middle school, high school, and young adults.

This role invests deeply in the next generation by cultivating relationships, forming disciples, leading students toward a meaningful faith in Jesus Christ, and integrating students into the life of a multi-generational church as active, participating members.

Position Status: Full Time

Student Ministry Responsibilities

1) Champion an incarnational ministry to students. This includes:

  • Oversee all programming related to student ministries including: youth group programming, mission trips, retreats, special activities, Profession of Faith, etc.

  • Lead and equip others to be present in the rhythms of students lives 
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and volunteers
  • Guide students through key transitions (5th grade, HS graduation, young adulthood)
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders
  • Equip others to lead and disciple students effectively
  • Connect students into the broader life of the church
  • Actively engage with students in the local community
  • Pursue improvement by seeking feedback from students, adult leaders, and parents.

2) Direct the spiritual formation of all students

  • Develop and implement a clear pathway for discipleship and spiritual growth
  • Create and oversee teaching, programming, and yearly ministry rhythms
  • Equip and involve parents in their students’ faith formation
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with families

3) Partner with the Children's Ministry Director and pastoral staff to coordinate an integrated ministry to and with children and students that aligns with the church as a whole.

4) Desires to serve on a strong and healthy staff team.

5) Participate in the leadership of worship services regularly.

Personal Qualifications/Expectations:

  • A growing and active relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Strong relational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Strong biblical and theological knowledge with corresponding ability to teach the faith and to give thoughtful responses to difficult questions with which students might be wrestling.
  • Alignment with the Reformed faith and the Mission and Vision of FRCZ
  • Strong organizational skills and a healthy sense of humor
  • Maintain healthy rhythms, including regular Sabbath
  • Be available for evenings, weekends, and key ministry events
  • Commit to ongoing personal and leadership development
  • Demonstrate the ability to cast vision in ways that inspire others to follow.
  • Possess a high level of emotional health evident in personal interactions.
