PASTOR OF FAITH FORMATION

Position Summary

The Faith Formation Pastor provides pastoral leadership with a primary focus on senior youth, young adults, and leadership development. This pastor equips and empowers the next generation by overseeing curriculum and benchmarks for faith formation, recruiting and training mentors, and walking with teens and young adults as they grow in faith and service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Senior Youth & Young Adults

  • Provide spiritual care, teaching, and guidance for high school students and young adults.
  • Plan and lead gatherings, studies, retreats, service opportunities, and missional experiences.
  • Build authentic relationships with youth and young adults, encouraging them to live out their faith in everyday life.
  • Partner with parents and families to support faith development at home.
  • Partner with Momentum Campus Ministries and assist in the development of on campus or off campus Huddle Groups and Missional Communities. 

2. Leadership Development

  • Identify, recruit, and train leaders and mentors to walk alongside teens and young adults.
  • Equip emerging youth and young adult leaders for service in the church and world, providing leadership development opportunities.
  • Model servant leadership and multiply leadership capacity in others.

3. Curriculum & Faith Formation Benchmarks

  • Oversee curriculum selection and implementation for youth and young adult ministries.
  • Establish clear benchmarks for faith formation (e.g., biblical knowledge, spiritual practices, community engagement, missional living, affirmation of faith).
  • Regularly assess progress and adapt approaches to meet the spiritual needs of students and young adults.

4. Preaching, Teaching, and Equipping

  • Preach at least once a month and teach as part of Senior Youth & Young Adults and equip and empower others to teach.
  • Collaborate with staff and ministry leaders to integrate youth and young adults into the broader life and mission of the church.

5. Pastoral Care & Collaboration

  • Offer pastoral care to youth, young adults, and their families.
  • Work closely with the Lead Pastor, Council, and other ministry staff to align faith formation with the church’s mission.
  • Contribute to the overall pastoral vision and leadership of the congregation.

 

Qualifications

A deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, with evidence of spiritual maturity and pastoral calling.

Ordained (or ordainable) as a Minister of the Word or Commissioned Pastor in the Christian Reformed Church.

Strong understanding of Reformed theology and CRCNA faith formation practices.

Demonstrated ability to connect with and disciple youth and young adults.

Proven experience in leadership development and equipping volunteers.

Strong communication, relational, and organizational skills.

Creative and adaptable approach to ministry, with a passion for intergenerational discipleship.

 

Time Commitment & Accountability

Full-time pastoral position.

Accountable to the Council and works under the supervision of the Lead Pastor.

Collaborates with staff, ministry leaders, parents, and mentors.
