On January 20, Pastor Micah Schuurman led a roundtable conversation hosted by Worship Ministries about lament.

Pastor Micah began by asking us what our own personal sadness looks like. And further, what happens when that sadness comes to church? In what ways has the church done well with grief and in what ways do we as leaders need to work to allow spaces for authentic sadness and lament.

He spoke about the importance of lament from a Biblical, theological, and personal perspective and encouraged us to do the work of writing our own lament Psalms. He encouraged us to share them either on the call, or with others in a safe space.

This conversation challenged us to think more deeply about our own feelings with an open and aware heart to the feelings that enter through our church doors every week. Especially as the Covid-19 pandemic persists and many of us are worn out and dealing with ongoing loss, consider taking time to watch this conversation and finding intentional ways to offer lament in corporate worship.
