One of my Sunday School leader volunteers came up with a great idea that I just had to share. We use the Walk With Me Preschool curriculum. Each week the children go home with a story card that includes a picture and the story that was told in Sunday school. Parents then know the story and can review it at home. There are 40 take home story cards and we do not use all of them because we don’t meet 40 times over the course of the year. The leader asked if I had plans for the unused children’s story cards. I didn’t so she plans to use them by putting them in the families’ mailboxes throughout the summer.

I thought this was a great idea for what might be extra or unused materials. The kids will be reminded of Sunday School and what they learned over the course of the last year and the parents will be encouraged to share a story that we didn’t have a chance to tell. The cards will also continue to make a connection to Sunday School over the summer. Doing this with the unused materials is free and putting them in boxes at church is very quick.

What do you do with extra, unused or left over materials?

That's great idea! At my church we use Kid Connection so we save the leftover copies of the Guess What! Family Magazine that accumulate through out the year and set them on the table at our Welcome Center during July and August for any visiting kids (and our kids!) to select and take home.
