We are now in the season of Lent, the six-week period before Easter where we remember Christ’s journey to the cross. While we eagerly engage children in Advent, the season preceding Christmas, engaging children during the season of Lent can be a little tougher.

Robin Turner, a children’s ministry director and blogger for Worship With Children, writes, “Lent is a season of action and activity deep within our hearts. While Christmas and Easter often have lots of outward activity, most of Lent is happening beneath the surface. Children often have deep awareness of ways that they want to grow and learn, with active spiritual lives.”

Turner then explores three simple actions to engage children in the season of Lent, which she names “turn around,” “lay it down,” and “pick up.” Read her child-focused explanation of each action in her blog post Introducing Children to 3 Actions of Lent.
