I recently had the joy of promoting the Dwell Curriculum at APCE’s annual event, and was so encouraged by the response we received. Unfamiliar with APCE? While the title is long (Association of Presbyterian Church Educators), their wonderful conference is a great way to connect with other leaders committed to reformed theology. In addition to meaningful worship and plenary sessions, APCE offers over 70 workshops for attendees on a variety of topics. To learn more about APCE’s annual event and view the 2020 plenaries check out the event website.

APCE folks really love Dwell! Here are just 5 things people were excited about:

  1. Dwell at Home resources: These new family faith formation resources are designed with busy families in mind. Our “5 Ways” series gives practical tips for praying with, worshiping with, and forming the faith of children. We also heard lots of fun stories about how our Advent resource, Jesse Tree: God’s Big Advent Story, had blessed families this past Christmas.

  2. Dwell Digital: Any Dwell coordinator can relate to that panicked email from a leader calling in sick or requesting a copy of their lesson because they forgot their book. People at the APCE event were excited about the flexibility of Dwell Digital with the ability to access all 360 Dwell lessons electronically. The pricing system was a huge draw for many of the people I spoke to, as the cost is based on the number of children actually attending your Dwell program (rather than the total number of children at your church).

  3. Scope and Sequence: I know what you’re thinking. The scope and sequence? Really? Granted, no one said, “I just love your scope and sequence,” but they were excited about the intentionality behind our scope and sequence. Several visitors to the booth were excited to hear that Dwell includes a comprehensive view of the Bible, with each level covering the entire arc of God’s Story: creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.

  4. Simple, fun story symbols: I’m not alone in my love of Dwell’s beautifully unique story symbols! Many people were drawn to our booth by the colorful story symbols we had displayed, just as children are drawn into Dwell stories through these simple, engaging visuals. Including these same symbols on Dwell’s children’s resources, our God’s Big Story cards, and our Jesse Tree resource helps kids connect the stories they hear at church to family time at home.

  5. God’s Big Story cards: I can’t tell you the number of people that stopped at our table and had to have a set of God’s Big Story cards. I also can’t tell you how many people said they were already using them! Some were using them for intergenerational events, while others had purchased a set for each of the families in their church. If you’re not familiar, God’s Big Story cards is a faith nurture activity that encourages adults and kids to have fun as they learn about God's story together. The 165 God's Big Story cards include all the stories that are shared in the Imagine, Wonder, and Marvel levels of Dwell.
