This post is part of the Children's Ministry Toolkit - a collection of resources for building strong and vibrant children's ministry, brought to you by Faith Formation Ministries.

Reading stories to young children opens a world to them, and by incorporating Bible storybooks and/or books with biblical themes, children come to know God in a more transformational way than through direct teaching.

  • To help you think through the components for a weekly story time, check out Toddler Storytime: How I Plan.

  • Also check out Storypath, a blog designed to connect children’s books with the biblical story and includes resources such as book reviews, lesson plans using children’s books, and other ideas for using children’s literature in different settings.

  • Since young children have relatively short attention spans, offer a coffee time for parents in a nearby room so they don’t have to drop kids off, run home, then run back for pickup.
