A Wonderful Way to Retell God’s Story

Looking for an impromptu, meaningful way for the children in your small group to retell the Bible story? Check out this idea from blogger Mina Munns at Flame: Creative Kids Children’s Ministry for making pictures as an open-ended Bible story response.
In addition to a flat surface and old picture frames, all you need are some ‘bits and pieces’ like beads, chenille stems, yarn, buttons, cut-up drinking straws, paper clips, stones, a tissue, colored paper scraps, etc. (I once did this activity with a small group using random stuff from the bottom of my purse!) After the children have heard the Bible story, set them free to retell the story as they create a picture by arranging the bits and pieces on the floor or table and inside the blank frame (or a frame made on the flat surface with masking tape). Save time for each child to tell about their picture and take a photo of their work to email them as a reminder of their creation and as an invitation for them to share their story picture with their family (for a third re-telling!).
This would also be a wonderful intergenerational activity and an “at home” idea to share with families. Try it soon and let us know how it goes. We'd love to see pictures too!
