Sunday’s sermon text was Hebrews 11 and 12. The pastor gave us time to reflect on who has been part of the great cloud of witnesses in our lives who have helped to shape our faith and guide us over the years. While the text points us clearly to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” it also reminds us that we find great encouragement for the journey from those who have gone before and those who stand beside us.
In Sunday school ministry, that might mean the teachers you’ve had in the past, the Sunday school coordinator that served before you, your co-coordinator, teaching team, or a network of people from your community who are doing the same sort of ministry. Maybe one of your kids or your spouse, if you are married, is especially creative and insightful. It could also be the authors you’re reading that challenge and inspire you with new idea and the will to preserver.
Who will you join you on your journey of faith and ministry this season? Whose support will you count on as you fix your eyes on Jesus?
