Who Is Responsible for the Church Nursery?

Most churches recognize the need for a well-run, well-organized nursery. In fact, more than ever, nurseries are required to meet high standards of safety and cleanliness. The nursery must also be properly staffed with the correct child-to-volunteer ratio. On top of that, the nursery should be visually appealing, a warm and nurturing space.
Sound like a big job? It most certainly can be.
How does your church ensure that the nursery is properly staffed and up to the correct standards?
Perhaps your church has gone the route of hiring a dedicated staff person to serve as the Nursery Coordinator. If so, how did you determine the number of hours and responsibilities? What has worked well or what are the challenges?
Or maybe you don’t have an official staff person in charge of nursery but instead you have a single nursery coordinator or a team of volunteers that are in charge. If so, how does this team stay up to date on safety standards? Is there a term length for those in charge of the nursery? What has worked well? What has not?
I’d love to hear some of your tips and best practices in the comments below! Thanks for sharing.
