Hi! I am hoping to lead my youth group on a mission trip this summer in our city of Seattle (our church is in Shoreline which is 20 minutes outside the city). I have never lead a mission trip before, so I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with all the components.

1) Does anyone have a good checklist of things that I should be taking care of and a timeline in which they should be done by?

2) What about ideas for getting the teens excited about doing a mission trip in their own city?

3) I am also putting this trip together from scratch, so if someone knows that Seattle area, I could use help.

Read the following books:
"Serving with Eyes Wide Open: Doing Short-Term Missions with Cultural Intelligence" by David A. Livermore
"When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor . . . and Yourself" by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert, especially chapter 7: "Doing Short-Term Missions Without Doing Long-Term Harm"

This information is so hard to find!  I've been working on a doc - just started today - and gleaning most from public school policies.
