CRCNA churches now have a revised Letter of Call to use when inviting a pastor to minister among them.

In February 2021, the Council of Delegates approved proposed revisions to the letters of call for Commissioned Pastors and Ministers of the Word as recommended by the Ministry Plan, Communication, and Synodical Services Committee of the Council of Delegates.

The revisions were made by Pastor Church Resources, in consultation with key personnel within the denomination. The revised Letter features updated language, expanded provisions for church councils and pastoral candidates to discuss, and linked support documents. There are versions of the Letter specific to calling Commissioned Pastors and specific to calling Ministers of the Word. There are versions of the Letter for both Canadian and U.S. churches.

All versions are available here:

All versions can also be found at Pastor Church Resources’ Pastor Search Process page and the Stated Clerks Forms & Certificates page

Pastor Church Resources serves pastors, churches, and classes by promoting healthy relationships, providing encouragement to those in ministry, and helping them to discern next steps in seasons of growth, transition, or challenge. We hope this Letter of Call will facilitate healthy conversation, mutual encouragement, and discernment during the call process.

Comments

Thank you for including parental leave as part of the support that a pastor receives, as it encourages a healthy conversation - for both churches and pastors - about boundaries around family and normalizes conversations about parents making decisions about having time off to care for children, as well as aging parents or other relatives.
