How to Create a Month of Church Social Media Content

If creating social media content for your church feels like something you’re always scrambling to keep up with, you’re not alone.
For many churches, posting happens last-minute. Someone remembers on Saturday night, or the morning of an event, and throws something together quickly. It works in the moment, but over time it becomes exhausting and inconsistent.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
With a simple plan, you can create an entire month of content in just a couple of hours.
Start with 3–4 Content Types
Before you start writing posts, it helps to decide what kinds of content your church will share regularly.
Most churches only need a few simple categories, like:
• Events and announcements
• Encouragement or scripture
• Community life (photos, volunteers, behind the scenes)
• Invitations (join us this Sunday, new series, special services)
These act as your foundation. Instead of wondering what to post each time, you’re simply rotating through these types.
Map Out Your Month
Next, take a calendar and sketch out your posts for the month.
You don’t need to post every day. Work with what’s manageable for you.
For example:
Week 1
– Sunday: Invitation to service
– Tuesday: Scripture or encouragement
– Thursday: Photo from Sunday or volunteer highlight
Week 2
– Sunday: Event reminder
– Wednesday: Behind the scenes or staff moment
– Friday: Invitation or weekend reminder
Once you map it out, you’ll start to see that you don’t need as much content as you think. You just need a plan.
Use What You Already Have
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need to create brand new content for every post.
You don’t!
Your church already has content:
• Sermons
• Bulletins
• Photos from Sundays and events
• Announcements
• Testimonies or stories
A single sermon can become multiple posts. A photo from Sunday can be used to highlight community. A simple quote can become encouragement midweek.
This approach saves time and makes your content feel more connected to what’s actually happening in your church.
Write Everything in One Sitting
Once your calendar is mapped out, set aside a block of time to write your captions all at once.
This is often called batching, and it makes a huge difference.
Instead of switching into “content mode” multiple times a week, you focus once, write everything, and you’re done.
This is a great way to get a solid first draft down so you’re not starting from scratch every time.
You Don’t Need to Do This Alone
If this still feels overwhelming, that’s okay. Most churches were never trained in how to do this, and it’s something many are figuring out as they go.
Inside Shine Online, I walk through this process step by step. From choosing your content types to building a simple monthly plan, the goal is to help you create a system that actually works for your church.
You don’t need to post every day or be on every platform. You just need a clear, simple plan that helps you show up consistently and connect with the people you’re called to serve.
