I spent the 1985-86 school year as a seminary intern in the recently planted Fairfield (CA) Christian Reformed Church. It was exciting to be part of building (literally) a new church in a community where the CRC had not been represented. It was, according to the protocol of the day, quite a ways from other CRCs of any kind and even farther from a recently planted congregation. This had its blessings, but also its challenges.
I'm glad to say that a new and more effective approach is now being used of clustering new congregations so that they can provide encouragement and support to one another. They can learn from each other how to engage folks in that context. Dr. Randy Rowland has produced several articles on clustering that will be appearing over the next weeks here. I hope you will read them and that they will spark ideas and action as we seek to be a denomination that plants churches which help people meet the Lord Jesus.
