Guest blog post by Wendy Hammond

A couple of weeks ago Steve highlighted what World Missions is doing to help churches fulfill the Great Commission, and he invited me to write a guest post to talk about what World Renew is doing.

Constituency Engagement is one of World Renew’s key priorities. Many people are surprised to learn that World Renew offers more to churches than educational giving projects and Peter Fish! Here are a few ways that we can help you get started or expand ministry at your church.

Local and Global Missions

  • Engage with your local neighborhood through Communities First.
  • Partner with Foods Resource Bank (FRB) in a food-growing project in the United States that raises money for overseas food security projects.
  • 16:15 Missions Coaching (offered in cooperation with CRWM) can help you develop a focused and strategic approach to missions for your congregation.

Volunteer

World Renew has volunteer opportunities for everyone: Individuals, families, couples, church groups, college students, working adults, and retirees. Placements are international as well as within the U.S. College students can receive class credit with some volunteer positions. You can serve for a week, a month, three months, a year, or two years. You can also join a Disaster Response Services (DRS) work trip to rebuild homes destroyed by storms or floods in the U.S.

Advocate

World Renew is committed to social justice. Our faith compels us to not only care about those who are oppressed, but to speak boldly in order to change the systems that make and keep them oppressed. Join World Renew as their advocate. Kris Van Engen, Congregational Justice Mobilizer who works with World Renew and the Office of Social Justice, is available to present on justice and a number of current issues. He can also help you start or strengthen a justice group in your church.
