In light of the Christian Reformed Church’s rich immigrant heritage—and the often challenging rhetoric we hear around immigration today—we created the Immigration Is Our Story audio series. This series serves as a heartfelt reminder of where many of us have come from and invites us into deeper empathy with the identities and experiences of today’s immigrants.
Modeled in part after the well-known StoryCorps format, these recordings feature intimate conversations between immigrants or descendants of immigrants and their loved ones from CRC and RCA churches across North America.
As you listen, may you be reminded of the journeys that shaped your own story or your community’s story. Consider: How do the experiences of the people in these recordings compare to those migrating today? What challenges did they face—and how do those challenges mirror or differ from our current realities? How might their stories soften and reorient our hearts toward immigrants in our neighborhoods and churches today? How is migration part of your story—and how might God be calling you to steward that story in the pursuit of justice, hospitality, and compassion?
We warmly invite you to listen together—with family, friends, small groups, or your congregation—and use the accompanying discussion guide to reflect and respond. You may also consider encouraging members of your own church community to share their immigration stories through this initiative.
