The church lives between the borders of Christ’s first coming and his promised return. National borders and immigration laws are also a part of the context in which the church finds itself. In this “in-between” place, the CRC is called to demonstrate profound and welcoming love to those who seek to join our communities. So how do we do it?
This webinar will cover these three topics to help churches to image God’s love in them and “welcome the stranger:”
- An overview of why so many churches are speaking out and calling our current immigration system unjust,
- A layout of the ways that churches are called to welcome the stranger, and
- A preview of the new Church Between Borders workshop.
Our presenter: Kris Van Engen is the Congregational Justice Mobilizer for the Office of Social Justice and Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. He equips people as they act on Jesus' instructions to be peacemakers, to do justice, and to prevent the root causes of poverty and hunger. He previously worked for 10 years as a pastor and church ministries director. He and his wife Lisa have two children, Ellie and Josiah.
