Hi all: We are coming up on the 2nd anniversary of the historic Prime Minister’s & Parliamentary apology to the survivors of Canada’s Indian Residential Schools (IRS). Last year I particiapted in the first celebration of the National Day of Reconciliation (June 11, 2009) commemorating the Apology - while standing on the lawn of Parliament during the ceremonies I was deeply struck that real reconciliation is a profound opportunity for transformation for all of us in Canada. It is urgent that churches, at national and local levels, and those with or without an IRS history, take steps to make the apology real. Reconciliation, healing and justice begin in relationships and in celebrating the gifts of First Peoples – in that light I’ve been really moved by this piece from our friend John Valk: http://www.crcna.org/pages/ccg_mj_1004_aboriginal.cfm Please also browse the our Aboriginal Justice archive: http://www.crcna.org/pages/ccg_spotlights_aboriginal.cfm - the entries from July and October 2008 are particularly important in the lead up to June 11 2010 - the 2nd National Day of Reconciliation. Thoughts & comments are welcome. Shalom! Mike Hogeterp Staff, Committee for Contact with the Government
