In good hands!!  It's a privilege to hand over the Deacon Guide position to Melissa!

Delight - that's what I feel as I hand over this deacons' resource and blog to Melissa! You know what grabs me most about her blog this week? She says her life changed when she became a deacon.

Now THAT is a hint about transformation that really whets my appetite. What's ahead for deacons in this denomination?  Plenty. There is a task force at work that is going to bring recommendations for deaconal change! There is a new Guide for this blog - and we are talking gender, generation, experience, nationality, and we'll discover more new dimensions I have no doubt.  You'll be on the journey of learning and discovery with Melissa.

Handing off to the next runner is a relief - when the next runner is Melissa! I might be chiming in a time or two, and I might even get to do a cameo now and then, but as she says, this stage is now where she'll take her place every week. She's looking forward to it, and so am I.

Moreover, I'm as convinced as ever that the deaconal capacity of the CRC is the genome for change in the Body. This role is on the edge of the system, coming into contact most often with the environment, with the community and its issues, with neighbors who've come to grief on the journey. It's the office that pushes the boundaries; it's where we are most permeable.   Maybe it's where we are most open to change.

Welcome, Melissa!  May your zest for this role only increase!
