I work with a Christian organization that works with the impoverished in our community. I agree that the most important part of ministry is building relationships and seeing those that we work with as God's image bearers.

Our organization used to have a Food Bank until about five years ago. We now have a program called Food for Friends. We have our own Food cards that we issue to those in need that come to us. The Food cards are signed and can be used in any grocery store in our community for nontaxable items like fresh meat and dairy products that are difficult to store at food banks. It also gives those we work with a choice of food they would need for their own diets. At the end of each month, we collect all cards along with receipts so we can hold people accountable.

To support our program we invited everyone in our community to donate 25 cents at the till every time they shop at the grocery store. For more information go to www.operationsharing.com

The previous post on the operationsharing foodbank was by John KleinGeltink.    I posted it for him, but I neglected to include his name.  Very sorry, John!
