"The burden of Christian leadership is becoming increasingly unbearable, demanding inhuman levels of efficiency, proficiency and even saintliness. No wonder pastors burn out or break down at an alarming rate. No wonder laypeople feel less like participants in something and more like tourists and customers. No wonder the church is missing the mark on its mission.

JR Woodward offers a bold and surprisingly refreshing model for churches-not small adjustments around the periphery of a church's infrastructure but a radical revisioning of how a church ought to look." -back cover summary

What to expect inside? The are four major sections, each with 4-6 chapters in each. The 4 sections are entitled: The Power of Culture, A Leadership Imagination that Shapes Missional Culture, The Five Culture Creators and Embodying a Missional Culture. The author has included a wealth of material for training and teaching this model in the form of practical and simple tables and checklists that make the 'doing' much more doable.

Who should read this?

  • Everyone who is concerned about the shrinking church and its increasing disconnect with the changing world it is called to reach. Conversations about new ideas and models are necessary to fuel the fire of 'holy discontent' that will result in a reversal of current trends.
  • Leaders, who are being asked to bring about a culture change within their congregations
  • Pastors, to whom council members and congregations are looking to for answers about how to be effective missionaries in an unfamiliar landscape.
