Relax, our Savior is with you, even if you haven’t remembered Him for a long time. Whatever your situation, He doesn’t stop talking to you – He’s in that still small voice deep inside, often hidden by our mind’s earthly clutter. But we do need to quiet our thinking and listen.
Way back in my mis-spent youth Jesus was active in my life, just as He is in yours. Even when my mind was far away from Him, He was there anyway. In the dark days of truck driving, bars, late nights and generally forgetting Jesus, He didn’t forget me. God’s Spirit was there many times, although I didn’t realize it. Two instances during my trucking career testify to this. Like many drivers, I was always in a hurry and the term “slow-down” was just bad. Once, a thought reminded me very bluntly that I cannot expect people to break the law and drive over the speed limit. When I slowed down, so did my agitation. Another time the Spirit provided that firm internal correction was when I was rigorously reminded that other people’s safety was far more important than my hurry. Those were two good things that percolated in mind several times a day, as needed.
One performance of that career was a middle of the night run-a-way on a steep hill with a heavy load, mostly caused by distraction. For the first time in years I prayed, quick and short, and God heard. According to the laws of physics and centrifugal force, it should have been impossible for the truck to make that tight curve at the bottom. But it did, with burnt out brakes, a nearly blown engine and much less rubber on the tires.
My point for sharing is that, no matter who you are, where you are or what you’re doing, know that Jesus is there, even if you don’t remember Him. Listen for that still small voice from deep inside where God’s Spirit resides. Remember how He spoke to Elijah on Mount Horeb (1 Kings 19:12). You’ll hear it occasionally if you listen quietly, and even when not paying attention the Spirit may push through occasional thoughts that will help you with life.
Please, don’t feel you can’t pray for any reason. Try being alone, settle, pray and listen – persist, God will be there (Matthew 6:6). He doesn’t give up on anyone, it’s us humans that often give up on the good things in our lives.
Sometimes your mind will be illuminated with quiet thoughts that will benefit you or someone close. However; be discerning, thoughts can also come from muddy places – if you’re unsure of anything, please seek advice from a trusted Christian. I had no close family or friends during the time mentioned above, but I listened to those peaceful concepts that occasionally bubbled up through the world’s noise. They took me out of a dead-end job, through college, into a fulfilling career that also included family and a good retirement.
Jesus is that bright never-dimming light of love, hope and peace amidst the dark clouds of war, lies, aggression and adversity that surround and discourage us in this world. Please see John 8:12 and 14;26 for His words to you.
Thank you, Jesus.
