After nearly two year of unpredictability and change, many of us are bone tired. We’ve spent months trying to keep our families, our work, our ministries, and our lives moving forward in the wake of the earth-quaking events of COVID-19 and the countless, unpredictable aftershocks that followed.

Today, we’ve reached a time that for months we have longed for—a time when COVID vaccines would be readily available, when new COVID cases and deaths would be on the decline, and when experts would predict that the worst was behind us. The pandemic may not be over, but we should feel overwhelming relief and joy, right? Well, maybe not.

The reality is that for many of us the most prominent feeling we have right now is weariness. We’re weary from the years-long work of being nimble, adaptable, and hopeful. Weary from the work of sorting through the aftermath of our world’s COVID-related trauma and change. Weary at the thought of rebuilding the rhythms and routines of our lives in our new reality. But this weariness is to be expected.

As Today author Reggie Smith recently wrote, “moving from an old situation to a new normal takes tremendous emotional work when you have grown used to (and fond of) doing things the old way.”

If, like me, you feel a bit overwhelmed about the prospect of resetting or recommitting to healthy spiritual practices in this new season, I encourage you to check-out the free, online version of the classic work, Seeking God’s Face — a guide to developing and practicing the habit of daily prayer through a fixed, common prayer. Seeking God’s Face, with it’s daily scripture readings, prompts, and guided prayers, provides a simple framework to help you ease back into, or amplify, your current prayer time. It can also help each of us rediscover the communal nature of prayer, as we join with others in Seeking God’s Face together.

If you’d like to learn more, visit the Seeking God’s Face website where you can find out about the resource, how to use it, and even sign-up to receive daily Seeking God’s Face devotions straight to your email inbox.

I pray Seeking God’s Face will be a blessing to you as it has been to me in this season.

And if you love of the feel of a good book in your hands, you can buy Seeking God’s Face on the Faith Alive website.

"Seeking God's Face melds prayer and Scripture into a companionable guide for becoming a participant—both listening and speaking—in the great salvation conversation that is the Christian gospel." - Eugene Peterson, author of The Message

"I think this is a wonderful gift to foster intentional Christian piety with a Reformed accent. It would be a marvelous way for those new to the Reformed tradition to connect themselves not just to the doctrines of Reformed theology but also the practices of Reformed piety." - James K.A. Smith, Professor of Philosophy, Calvin College
